PD-NAC template proposition

[edit]

Hi, I would like to propose creation of a new country-specific copyright tag for copies of archival materials availible under Poblic Domain license at the Szukaj w Archiwach web portal of National Digital Archives (NAC) of Poland. It would siplify the upload process for the editors and also maybe allow further compliance with NAC request for description of the copied material. The text on the tag could be something like this:

"This file remains in the Public Domain or its copyrights are owned by the National Archives and was published with permission for unlimited use through the Szukaj w Archiwach web portal administered by the National Digital Archives. For details see: Reuse policy."

It would also be great to inlude in the template the archives' name, fond and reference number of the file, along with the url and access date (per the reuse policy). The tag could include graphics: File:PD-icon.svg and National Archives' logo. Antoni12345 (talk) 12:50, 9 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

So, it's either {{PD}} for some unspecified reason or it's {{CopyrightedFreeUse}}. Should we have both options in one template? --Botev (talk) 18:51, 9 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
OK, yes it would be more apropriate to create separate ones. I'm just afraid that uploaders won't check the copyright accurately, as they are both indicated with the PD mark at the web portal. But I guess they should do so. And despite that these templates exist I think it's relevant to create the case-specifics ones for Szukaj w Archiwach to directly provide the source and in the second case the copyright holder in the tag. — Antoni12345 (talk) 23:03, 9 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm not an expert in coding. Could someone review my propositions and make them functional templates with parameters? Also it would be great to automaticaly apply apropriate category to the files with the tag.

Archive {{{archives_name}}}
Fonds {{{fonds}}}
Reference code {{{code}}}

To the uploader: please make shure to apply appropriate copyright tag. Use this one only for works which copyrights are owned by the archive (Prawa należą do archiwum). For the works in the public domain use {{PD-Poland-archives}}. Any other designation does not allow uploading the work to Wikimedia Commons!
This file has been released into the public domain through szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl website by the {{{archives_name}}} as its copyrights expired. Therefore it is allowed to "copy, change, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, without the need to ask for permission".

Date retrived {{{date}}}
To the uploader: please make shure to apply appropriate copyright tag. Use this one only for works in the public domain (domena publiczna). For the works designated as "Copyright owned by the Archive (Prawa należą do archiwum)" use {{Copyrighted free use-Poland-archives}}. Any other designation does not allow uploading the work to Wikimedia Commons!
P.S. I can also prepare a documentation page in regards to the guidence on how to use the templates.— Antoni12345 (talk) 15:14, 24 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

NATO tag for Public Domain

[edit]

I wonder if it is possible to create a NATO tag for PD... reviewing their terms I consider it should be possible. Thanks!

  • No material produced by NATO is to be sold, used for outside advertising or promotional purposes of any kind.
  • All content taken from NATO and republished must be clearly credited or sourced to NATO.
  • Photos, videos and articles are released under the legally recognized terms of "Fair Use" to members of the press, academia, non-profits and the general public.
  • No material is to be used in programs, articles or online publications of any kind that defame NATO or its member countries.
  • Material is provided, free of charge, for use in objective and balanced content, even if at times the end products may be critical of NATO.
  • In instances where a member country is criticized, NATO wishes it to be made known that it does not associate itself with the contents of the article, publication or broadcast.
  • NATO reserves the right to request the removal of NATO copyrighted material from any externally created content.
  • Maps displayed on the NATO website do not imply the expression of any opinion by NATO concerning the legal status or frontiers of any country, territory, or area.

These terms are quite far from meaning public domain; they don’t even mean a free license in the sense used on Commons (e.g. a free license would permit commercial use of any kind, including advertisements and promotion, as well as subjective or unbalanced content). So no, no PD tag should be created for NATO, and material falling under these terms of use shouldn’t be uploaded to Commons at all. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 13:13, 6 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for your clarification.
Enjoy your day.
